Pocket PDA (Plato Data Analyzer for Pocket PC) runs on Pocket PC in conjunction with Plato Data Analyzer Standard and Professional versions.

Hardware

Although Pocket PDA has been successfully running on Pocket PC's from various vendors and models and we have not yet come across a Pocket PC where Pocket PDA does not run. However due the ever changing models, it is not possible to test on each and every Pocket PC in the market. We have tested it on the models below and can only guarantee that it works on those. We will also continue to test on different models. We continue to support other models as best as we can, but we cannot guarantee its operation and that the online boards be consulted for any known issues about the intended device.

  • Dell Axim X51
  • Dell Axim X5
  • Dell Axim X3
  • HP iPAQ 4700 series
  • HP iPAQ 5000 series
  • HP iPAQ h1935, 1940, h4150, hx2110
  • HP iPAQ 110 series
  • HP iPAQ 211 Enterprise (210 series)
  • Toshiba e335

Pocket PDA version 1.5.0 and better supports wireless/wired synchronization over the network. To use this feature Pocket PCs should be equipped with network connectivity and should be able to reach Plato server over the network. If synchronizing over wireless network, it is the responsibility of the customer to configure the wireless connectivity and secure it.

Operating System

  • Pocket PC 2002
  • Pocket PC 2003
  • Pocket PC 2003 SE (Landscape mode is not supported, application will run in portrait mode)
  • Windows Mobile 5.0
  • Windows Mobile 6.0

Memory

64 MB. Note that there is no separate hard disk and RAM on a Pocket PC, they both share the same memory area. Thus more programs you install on the Pocket PC lesser will be the amount of free memory you have to work on and vice versa.

Wireless

PocketPDA supports synchronization to PDAProfessional version over a wireless network. To perform wireless synchronization Pocket PC must be able to reach PDAProfessional server over a wireless network. This means Pocket PC must be WiFi enabled and you should have a wireless access point for it to connect our server. Setting up the wireless hub and it connectivity is the responsibility of the customer. Also first time synchronization needs to be performed using ActiveSync by connecting to a workstation where PDAProfessional is installed.

Other Required Software

  • Active Sync 3.5 or better needs to be installed on the workstation with which Pocket PC will be synchronized.
  • PDA Standard version 3.2.0 or better or PDA Professional version 4.6.6 or better needs to be installed on the workstation with which Pocket PC will be synchronized.

Data Security

Data on the Pocket PC is secured in the following manner:

  • The data on the Pocket PC is stored in the a SQL CE database (not encrypted), but access to the database itself is protected by a password.
  • Access to the application is restricted by username and password.
  • Pocket PCs have a built in feature to shut down after certain time of inactivity and password has to be entered to use it again. Note this is a built-in feature of Pocket PCs operating system not part of Pocket PDA application.
  • When synchronizing Pocket PDA, data is temporarily stored in unencrypted XML files in a staging area. The data stays in the staging only for a short period of time till it is imported in the database. If this is a concern one of the following two options can be used:
    • After synchronizing the Pocket PC, immediately import it into Pocket PDA / Workstation.
    • Use wireless synchronization, where no staging area is used. It is the responsibility of the customer to configure the wireless connectivity and secure it.
