This will install the Plato Data Analyzer Professional Client Program Files and Crystal Reports support engines. These are the programs that a user will use to access Plato Data Analyzer Professional Databases and run reports.
PDAProfessional client can be installed on a Citrix or a Terminal server, however note that if using PocketPDA at least one client install should be done on a users PC, from where PocketPDA can be synchronized via ActiveSync.
Prerequisite
Ensure that you have local administrative or equivalent rights to install software to the computer.
Have the computer name of the server computer that the Plato Data Analyzer Professional System was installed to.
Have the instance name specified in the SQL Server setup available.
Have the PDA system network share name available. This is the network share on the server computer that was set up to point to the Plato Data Analyzer Professional system directory in the Plato Data Analyzer Professional setup program.
Ensure that this client computer can be authenticated by the server computer that the Plato Data Analyzer system was installed to.
At the Welcome To Plato Data Analyzer Professional Client Programs screen, click Next.
After reading the License agreement, click Yes stating that you agree to the terms.
Enter or confirm your customer information. It is recommended that the option to install for anyone who uses this computer be selected. Click Next to continue.
Verify and / or change the install directory and click Next.
Click Install to proceed with the installation.
Install should create a new icon on your desktop and in the programs menu.
Configure:
Launch PDA Professional.
From the log on dialog choose Information tab and click Edit. Enter the following information:
Database Server: This is the computer name followed by instance name of the SQL server. Typically <your server name>\Plato.
Reporting Server: Typically leave this <blank>, unless you have a separate reporting server.
System Folder: This is the network share on the server computer that represents the directory where a PDA Pro system resides. Enter the folder name as \\[ComputerName]\[ShareName].
Choose Save to save the information.
Choose cancel to exit the application.
Re-launch PDA Professional.
(optional) If there was an upgrade already downloaded on the server, the program will upgrade itself. Follow default instructions to upgrade the client.
At the Welcome To Plato Data Analyzer Professional Client Programs screen, click Next.
After reading the License agreement, click Yes stating that you agree to the terms.

At the Select Plato Data Analyzer Professional Program Options, select or deselect the components to install. You may change the target directory for the PDA Pro program files only. If you have saved reports prior to version 4.6.9 check 'Plato Crystal Reports Engine' box. In most cases you will leave the Crystal box unchecked, click 'Next'.
At the Plato Data Analyzer Professional Locations screen, enter the following information:
Server: This is the computer name of the server the PDA Pro System files were installed to.
Instance: This is the Instance Name entered during the SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine setup on the server computer. The default is Plato.
Root Folder: This is the network share on the server computer that represents the directory where a PDA Pro system resides. Enter the folder name as \\[ComputerName]\[ShareName].
Click Next to proceed. The setup program will attempt to validate the instance name and root folder you specified. If successful, it will proceed to the next dialog. If it is unsuccessful, you will again be prompted for either a valid instance name or a new root folder.
At the Select Program Folder, verify that this is the Desktop folder you want the program to create, then click Next to continue.
At the Start Copying Files, verify that Current Settings reflects the setup options that you specified. If not click Back to change any setup options. If you are satisfied with the current settings, click Next to begin copying the files to your computer.
Follow all on screen and reboot instructions as they are displayed.
Note: The first time the Plato Data Analyzer is run after installation you will be prompted to activate the program. If this is the first client workstation installed contact CPRT installation representative to obtain additional licenses if purchased. You will not be able to activate other workstations without obtaning additional licenses.
Silent Install:
Client workstations can be installed without user interaction using silent installation. With silent install, there is no need for a user to monitor the installation and provide input via dialog boxes. Input for the dialog boxes is fed thorough a response file. Template for the response file can be downloaded from http://www.cpr-tech.net/support/download/PDAProClientSilentInstall.zip Unzip the file and it contains PDAProClientSilentInstall.iss. Open the .iss file using Notepad and enter the values for the following keys:
Under [{4F03B975-CC0B-44C8-AEFC-B12688FA003C}-SdCustomerInfo-0] section enter the authorized user and company name:
szName=authorized_user
szCompany=authorized_company
Under [{4F03B975-CC0B-44C8-AEFC-B12688FA003C}-SdShowDlgEdit3-0] section enter the server name, sql server instance and the system root folder. System root folder can be a mapped drive or UNC.
szEdit1=plato_server_name
szEdit2=plato_sql_server_instance
szEdit3=path_to_plato_server_root_folder
After saving the responses, use the following command to run the silent install (note there is no space between the switch (f1 and f2) and the filename):
/f1: location and name of the response file. If the path has spaces in it enclose it in quotes (").
/f2: (optional) When the silent install is run a log file is generated. Specify the location and name of the log file. If the path has spaces in it enclose it in quotes ("). Folder for the log file should be an existing folder. If this parameter is skipped setup.log is generated in the install folder. Response code of zero in the file means installation was successful.

With silent uninstall, there is no need for a user to monitor the uninstallation and provide input via dialog boxes. Input for the dialog boxes is fed thorough a response file. Download the response file from http://www.cpr-tech.net/support/download/PDAProClientSilentUninstall.zip Unzip the file and it contains PDAProClientSilentUninstall.iss.
After saving the responses, use the following command to run the silent uninstall (note there is no space between the switch (f1 and f2) and the filename):

PDA Professional client application can be installed from a MSI package. Please ask the support representative for the link to download the MSI package. Using a MSI editor edit the shortcuts for the start menu and desktop to point to your server.
(if SQL Server is using the default instance then plato_server_name)
Some useful switches for MSI package are:
/passive to run in unattended mode - progress bar only.
ALLUSERS=2 to install the application for all users.
The package has the following prerequisites:
Internet Explorer 6.0 or better
Microsoft Data Access Component 2.6 or better
Windows Installer 3.1 or better
Generate Licenses
You will need to have a license for each workstation that is installed with PDA Professional. This procedure needs to be done only once after the initial install for all workstation licenses that you have purchased. Follow the instructions below to generate licenses:
Launch PDAProfessional and log on as super users i.e. Administrator or pdaadmin.
From the menu bar, choose System->Management Console. From the Folder Items list, in Management Console, under Security, choose Workstation.
From the tool bar, click on Properties.
In the 'Manage Licenses' dialog enter your organization name and the number of licenses you have purchased.
Click on 'Generate' to generate the pre-license code.
Click on 'Copy' to copy the pre-license code to the clipboard.
Bring up your e-mail and send and address it to the CPRT support personnel.
In the body of the message right click and choose paste to paste the pre-license code.
Send the e-mail and wait for a response from the CPRT support personnel.
The returned e-mail will contain an attached text file. Save that file to your computer (do not open it).
Go back to the 'Manage Licenses' dialog for Workstation in Plato Data Analyzer.
Click on the 'Browse' button and browse to the text file you just saved.
Click 'Add' to add the licenses.
'Total Licenses' box should now display the number of licenses you have.
