PDAProfessional uses SQL Server 2000 / 2005 / 2008 to store its data; hence it needs to be installed on the server before installing PDAProfessional system databases. Although PDAProfessional is compatible without any service packs, SQL service pack 3 is recommended for SQL Server 2000. If sp3 is not applied, patch for protection against W32.Slammer virus is recommended. We do not recommend sp4 for SQL Server 2000, due to issues with user deletion. Please contact are technical staff if you wish to apply sp4.
We cannot attach our databases to an existing running SQL Server instance. Nor can we share our SQL Server instance with any other product as we maintain our own SQL logins / rights etc. Every user that is added to the application is created as a user in SQL Server. Hence customers should procure appropriate number of SQL Server CAL (client access licenses). Over and above these users, one additional SQL user is created for internal maintenance and one more is used by interface (optional component).
Quick Glance
PDA requires SQL Server to be installed with the following parameters:
Instance Name: PLATO (default instance name is not recommended)
SA password: Blank (when PDA server components are installed the password is changed to the one required by PDA, should you want to have your own SQL server password, it can be changed after PDA system components have been installed)
Service Accounts: However you want it (if unsure choose 'same account for each service' and 'use local system account')
Authentication Mode: Mixed Mode
